European Integration of Moldova – pillar for continental stability
The European integration of the Republic of Moldova is not only a national objective but also a contribution to the security and stability of the entire continent. Moldova is already demonstrating that it is a responsible European partner. The message was conveyed by head of state Maia Sandu at a press conference held together with Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, who is today on a working visit to Chișinău.
Maia Sandu stated that Greece and Moldova are friendly countries, with relations rooted deeply in history, and the ties between them have been maintained and strengthened over time.
“Today, our political dialogue is more solid than ever. Since 2023, we have embassies in both capitals – in Chișinău and Athens – a clear proof of the desire to build a lasting partnership. The community of Moldovans in Greece plays an important role in our relationship. It is a well-integrated, hardworking community that contributes to the development of both countries. We are pleased to know that they benefit from the support of the Greek authorities – and we thank you for this,” Maia Sandu said.
The President described the political relations between the two states as excellent and called for leveraging them in concrete projects in the economy, investments, and infrastructure. “We agreed today that we can – and must – do more. We have much to accomplish – and I am convinced we will achieve them together,” the president stated.
The head of state thanked Greece for the strong support for the expansion of the European Union and the accession of the Republic of Moldova, noting that our country is already demonstrating that it is a responsible European partner.
“We are already contributing to the continent's security by maintaining stability at the EU's eastern border, actively engaging in enhancing security in the Black Sea region, and maintaining a firm position against threats from the East. We are present in peacekeeping missions in the Western Balkans and are committed to defending European values,” said Maia Sandu.
Maia Sandu noted that Greece is among Moldovans' top preferred destinations and invited Greek citizens to discover Moldova: our wines, rustic landscapes and hospitality of people.
The head of state highlighted the collaboration in the energy field, referring to the use of the trans-Balkan pipeline in reverse mode, allowing for the import of gas from diverse sources – an important step for the energy security of the Republic of Moldova.
Kyriakos Mitsotakis is on a working visit today to the Republic of Moldova. This is the first official visit of a Greek Prime Minister to the Republic of Moldova. It comes just a week after the official visit of Speaker Igor Grosu to Athens, and shortly before Prime Minister Dorin Recean's working visit to Greece.
