Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, during his visit to the United Kingdom, today had a meeting with members of the UK-Moldova Parliamentary Friendship Group of the British Parliament. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, the democratic support provided by the United Kingdom and the importance of institutional resilience in a complex geopolitical context.
The speaker expressed gratitude for the support provided by the United Kingdom to Moldova in recent years, emphasizing that British assistance was essential for maintaining peace, democracy and internal stability.
‘’The aid provided by the United Kingdom is vital for Moldova, especially in a period marked by increased risks to security and democratic order. The stakes are high, and our strategic cooperation is an important pillar for strengthening democracy. The support also includes concrete actions in the fight against external interference, combating propaganda and supporting institutional reforms,’’ said Igor Grosu.
The Moldovan officials also addressed topics related to the Diaspora from the United Kingdom, reiterating their commitment to finding solutions to ensure better conditions for Moldovans settled in the UK, whether they choose to stay or return home.
The parties also discussed the regional security situation, emphasizing Moldova's need to continue efforts to combat Russian influence, misinformation and illegal activities of crime rings. In the context, the importance of a free and accessible press was highlighted, which would provide citizens with accurate and balanced information.
