30.8 million euros to be allocated for construction of Bălți-Suceava power line

30.8 million euros will be allocated for the construction of 400 kV Bălți-Suceava overhead power line, as well as for the rehabilitation of the power transport networks on the territory of the Republic of Moldova.

The government has approved the ratification of the Amendment to the Financing Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the European Investment Bank regarding Moldova-Romania electric interconnection, signed in Chișinău on 20 December 2017. Previously, this involved financing the construction of the back-to-back station in Vulcănești with a capacity of up to 600 MW, a solution that is no longer feasible following synchronization with the European energy system, ENTSO-E.

Thus, the funds amounting to 30.8 million euros are reallocated for the construction of 400 kV Bălți-Suceava overhead power line. All works are to be executed based on feasibility studies, which have demonstrated the economic efficiency of the project.

The implementation of this project will contribute to strengthening the national electro-energy system, create the necessary premises for integrating renewable energy into national networks, and contribute to the expansion of the electricity market at the European Union level.
