Diplomacy through agriculture in central Moldova village; Diplomats accredited in Chisinau pick cherries, taste traditional dishes, native wines

More members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Chisinau and local producers have picked cherries, visited sorting and packaging facilities and tasted traditional dishes and local wines in the village of Ustia, central Dubasari district.

The event took place at the event titled, Diplomats' Cherry Harvest, dedicated to promoting the potential of export of Moldovan cherries, launched for the first time by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in partnership with the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry.

Attending the event, Foreign Affairs Minister Mihai Popsoi emphasized that this initiative marked a symbolic premiere and was part of the strategic actions organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the diplomatic missions of the Moldova, in order to support the promotion of Moldovan agro-food products on international markets.

‘’Through such initiatives, we aim not only to highlight the agricultural potential of Moldova, but also to strengthen trade bridges with our foreign partners. Moldovan cherries are more than just a product; they are a success story that deserves to be told and tasted worldwide,’’ said Minister Mihai Popsoi.

The official expressed hope that such initiatives would be extended to other regions of the country, including other sectors of the national economy.

In 2024, Moldova exported approximately 14,000 tons of cherries to 15 countries. The trends are positive and the export volume, along with the number of markets, is expected to grow in the coming years, as a result of substantial investments made in this strategic sector.
