President receives Franz Josef Strauss Prize from Hanns Seidel Foundation

On a visit to Germany, President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu received Franz Josef Strauss Prize, granted by Hanns Seidel Foundation, in recognition of her commitment to democracy, freedom and Moldova's European path.

The award ceremony took place in Munich, in the presence of Bavarian Prime Minister Markus Söder and Hanns Seidel Foundation President Markus Ferber, with whom President Sandu also had a bilateral meeting. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation with the Bavarian region in areas such as the economy, security, education, and regional development. Bavaria is one of the most developed states in Germany, with a strong economy in fields such as the automotive industry, advanced technologies, agriculture, and tourism, and holds an important role in supporting the extension of cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the Federal Republic of Germany.

"This award is about recognizing the efforts of all Moldovans who, day by day, contribute to strengthening democracy in our country. It is about all the people in our region who, in the face of challenges, choose courage, truth and peace," said Maia Sandu.

Franz Josef Strauss Prize, established in memory of the former Bavarian leader known for supporting a strong European project is granted to international personalities who contribute to promoting democratic values and strengthening peace and freedom in Europe.

Maia Sandu said she will donate 10,000 euros, which accompanies the award, for the conservation and promotion of the musical heritage of composer Eugen Doga, one of the most valuable people of the Republic of Moldova.
