New amendments to support domestic film productions

In the Republic of Moldova, a functional mechanism will be created to regulate cinematographic activities and new opportunities will be established for the financial support of film projects. The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the draft amendment to the Cinematography Law.

Cinematography Fund will be set up for financing, developing, promoting the cinematography sector, carrying out measures to conserve, preserve, and enhance the national cinematographic heritage.

The amendments also aim to strengthen national film production, so that the volume of film production and other audiovisual works will increase by at least 30% in three years, as well as to stimulate co-productions and international cooperation.

At the same time, the international visibility of domestic cinematography will increase. It is estimated that at least 10 films will be selected annually at prestigious international festivals. Additionally, cinema hall managers will be required to ensure a quota of films in the Romanian language, thus contributing to the promotion of this language and national cultural identity.

The project also provides for the development of cinematic education in schools and communities, the continuous training of professionals, the transfer of Odeon cinema to the National Center of Cinematography, and its transformation into a public center for cinema projection and education.
