Minister of Education announces launch of national information campaign in schools on risks of drug use and trafficking

The Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Internal Affairs will launch, starting from December, a comprehensive information campaign in educational institutions about the risks associated with drug use and trafficking. The announcement was made on Tuesday by Minister of Education Dan Perciun, ahead of the public hearings at the National Security, Defense, and Public Order Commission, which will take place on Wednesday in Parliament.

According to the minister, the campaign will start in a pilot regime in December and will be expanded on a large scale from the end of January, running throughout the second semester. The activities will take place during personal development classes and will involve both teaching staff and specially trained police officers for this type of intervention.

“We will conduct an active information campaign in educational institutions, during personal development lessons, with the involvement of police officers and based on materials that we will develop together. The goal is to better inform both teachers and students about the risks of drug use and how they can report to the police cases of people selling or distributing such substances,” stated Dan Perciun during a show on Rlive.

The minister specified that, although no reports regarding drug use or trafficking in schools have been recorded at the Ministry of Education, the phenomenon cannot be ruled out. He emphasized that the risk of use outside school hours or during leisure time remains a serious issue, and prevention must be a priority.

“Profiling, prevention, and information activities are essential. We are pleased with the openness and insistence of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to conduct this campaign in educational institutions,” he added.

Dan Perciun mentioned that the initiative is part of the broader efforts of the Police to combat drug use and trafficking at the national level, and their presence in schools will contribute to better protection of children and discourage their involvement in such situations.
