Six cities of Moldova receive equipment for quick emergency response on behalf of EU

The residents of Drochia, Iargara, Sangerei, Criuleni, Straseni and Cantemir will be better protected against disasters, after the municipal enterprises received modern sets of equipment for quicker emergency responses, with a total value of almost 2 million lei. The equipment was provided by the European Union through the EU4Moldova Resilient: Safe State, Strong Communities project, implemented by Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova.

The sets include tipping trailers, wood chippers and water pumps, most of which are manufactured in Moldova. The new equipment will help local teams in charge of municipal services to act quickly in cases of storms, heavy snowfall, floods, water accumulation, tree falls or infrastructure damage.

‘’The employees of these enterprises have also received specialized training, so they can intervene not only in remediation activities, but also in prevention and support for the population in emergency situations. We have full confidence that this equipment will strengthen the resilience of the cities and enhance their crisis response capacity,’’ said Tomasz Horbowski, director of Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova.

At the same time, Marcia Kammitsi, a programme manager at the European Union’s Delegation in Moldova, emphasized the EU's commitment to small communities with limited technical resources:

‘’Our support focuses on people and their safety. Through such investments, we help small cities respond better to climate challenges and protect lives and property.’’

By the end of this year, another six municipal enterprises will benefit from medium-capacity tractors (50–90 HP), necessary for quick interventions during inclement weather in the cold season.

In total, the 12 municipal enterprises were selected following a public grant call conducted in last March by Solidarity Fund PL in Moldova. The total value of the equipment amounts to almost 6.5 million lei, funds provided by the European Union through the EU4Moldova Resilience project.
