Travel by public transport costs 6 lei in Moldovan capital as of 1 July
Chisinau, 1 July /MOLDPRES/ - A travel in public transport will cost 6 lei in the Chisinau city starting from today. The new tariffs approved under an instruction by the Chisinau general mayor, Ion Ceban, have entered into force.
Under the decision, the price of a travel ticket by trolley bus or bus will be 6 lei will cost 6 lei in Chisinau and its suburbs. The tariff for one travel by mini-bus will also stand at 6 lei. This price will be valid in the area of the Chisinau city, while to travel outside Chisinau city, 0.4 lei will be paid for each kilometer covered, but not more than 12 lei on the entire area of the Chisinau municipality.
Following the approval of the new tariffs, the Chisinau territorial office of the State Chancellery appealed the mayor’s instruction in court, reasoning that ‘’the establishment of the tariffs in the public passenger transport is not within the competence of the mayor, as the power belongs to the Chisinau Municipal Council.’’ At the same time, the State Chancellery asked for the cancellation of the new tariffs.
For his part, Chisinau mayor Ion Ceban described the action as ‘’an attack against the local public administration.’’ According to Ceban, ‘’the State Chancellery should have notified the city hall about eventual irregularities and the institution would have had to answer in a period of 30 days.’’ The mayor asked the institution to withdraw the application submitted to court.
