Exhibition dedicated to great departed poet uinaugurated at National Library of Moldova
Chisinau, 12 February /MOLDPRES/ - An exhibition occasioned by the 86th birthday anniversary of a great departed poet of Moldova, Grigore Vieru, was opened at the National Library (BNRM) today.
Contacted by MOLDPRES, BNRM director Elena Pintilei said that the exhibition comprised about 76 documents of the Library’s collection whish show the works of the most read contemporary poet – Grigore Vieru.
The exhibition will be open till 28 February.
Grigore Vieru was born in the Pererita village, Hotin county, presently Briceni district, north Moldova, on 14 February 1935. He was author of more volumes of poems. Vieru was also author of the ABC-book. His works were translated in English, Russian, German, Italian, Bulgarian and other languages. In 1988, he was awarded the most prestigious distinction in the field of literature for children – the Hans Christian Andersen Honorary Diploma. In 1966, Grigore Vieru was awarded the Order of the Republic. In 1990, Vieru became Honorary Member of the Romanian Academy. Grigore Vieru died on 18 January 2009. Vieru was posthumously awarded the Star of Romania National Order in rank of Grand Cross. Presently, more schools from Moldova, a boulevard from Chisinau and a street from Iasi, Romania, bear his name.
