Moldova and Germany strengthen cooperation in European affairs

Moldova's European agenda, internal progress in the accession process, and the support provided by Germany were the main topics discussed during a phone call between Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration Cristina Gherasimov and Gunther Krichbaum, new Minister of State for European Affairs of Germany.

Cristina Gherasimov congratulated the German official on taking up the mandate and wished him success in his new position. During the discussion, the parties reviewed the steps taken by the Republic of Moldova on the path to European integration, both internally and through active dialogue with European Union member states.

The Deputy Prime Minister expressed the Chisinau authorities' gratitude for the constant support provided by Berlin and for Germany's commitment to supporting our country's European path.

Gunther Krichbaum is known for his pro-European positions and strong support for the expansion of the European Union in the eastern neighborhood.

Germany is one of the main development partners of the Republic of Moldova, providing consistent support in reform processes, modernization, and rapprochement with the European Union. In recent years, German assistance has focused on areas such as strengthening the rule of law, streamlining public administration, sustainable development, energy transition, and support for civil society. Through GIZ (the German Agency for International Cooperation) and other bilateral instruments, Germany has funded projects in dual education, rural infrastructure, energy efficiency, and anti-corruption. Moreover, Berlin has firmly supported Moldova's European path in European institutions, advocating for the opening of accession negotiations and strengthening candidate status.
