Moldova to be able to access European Union's Cybersecurity Reserve

Moldova will be able to benefit from technical support, equipment and experts from the European Union, in order to protect state institutions and critical infrastructure – such as energy systems, communications, or hospitals – against cyber threats.

This will be possible, after the government today approved a draft law, which allows Moldova to access the European Union's cybersecurity reserve, which is a specially created European mechanism for quick intervention in the event of large-scale cyberattacks.

“With this instrument, specialized teams can promptly intervene with technical expertise, equipment and resources to protect the state's critical infrastructure. By ratifying the Agreement, we strengthen our national capacity to respond to cyber threats and take an important step towards integrating Moldova into the European digital space. The initiative contributes directly to the safety of citizens, the protection of our institutions and the strengthening of our strategic partnership with the EU,” Secretary-General of the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization Ina Voicu said at the cabinet meeting.

The opportunity becomes accessible through an amendment to the Agreement on Participation in the Digital Europe Programme (2021–2027), signed on May 20, 2025.

The Digital Europe Programme is a European Union funding programme planned for a seven-year period (2021-2027), aimed at supporting and speeding up the digital transformation of the European economy, industry and society, bringing benefits to citizens, public administrations and businesses, and improving Europe's competitiveness in the global digital economy.
