European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos met today with representatives of town halls from several localities in the south of the Republic of Moldova - Găgăuzia (mayors of Comrat, Vulcănești, Ceadîr-Lunga), Taraclia, Cahul, Leova, Cimișlia and Cantemir.
The discussions focused on the major challenges of the region related to economic development and agriculture, as well as on the opportunities offered by Moldova's European path, alongside the importance of preserving local traditions and culture.
Kos emphasized that the European Union is and remains Moldova's most reliable and stable partner, supporting regional development through programs adjusted to the specific needs of each community. The goal of these initiatives is to ensure a better life for all citizens, regardless of region.
Marta Kos reiterated that the EU not only respects but also protects minority cultures, highlighting that the Union's strength lies in its diversity and unity.
At the State University in Cahul, Marta Kos held an open dialogue with young people and representatives of civil society from the region. The discussions focused on Moldova's European path, development opportunities, and young people's expectations regarding the future of the country.
Marta Kos emphasized the importance of a strong voice from young people and civil society, stressing that their active involvement is essential for building a democratic and prosperous future. This exchange of ideas was a valuable opportunity to better understand the needs of the region.
