Coordinated control to be implemented at Moldova-Romania border crossing point
The Cantemir-Falciu state border crossing point will operate based on the concept of coordinated control, with the resumption of the railway traffic. To this end, the cabinet of ministers approved the initiation of negotiations on a draft Agreement between the governments of Moldova and Romania.
The conclusion of the Agreement will contribute to ensuring state border security, reducing waiting times and simplifying control procedures. At the same time, the transit of goods and people will be accelerated, increasing the volume of imports and exports, which will contribute to the expansion of economic cooperation.
The relaunch of this border crossing point's activity will allow the interconnection of the railway network in the southern part of the country with the European Union area and create corridors of solidarity for Ukraine.
"We are increasing connectivity in the west, in the EU, in order to stimulate exports to the EU," said Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
The Cantemir-Falciu border crossing point will be the third to operate based on the coordinated control concept, implemented at the Moldovan-Romanian border.
Coordinated control involves conducting border control on the territory of a single state, in two distinct stages. Thus, control is first carried out by the authorities of the exit state, namely Moldova, followed successively by the authorities of the entry state – Romania. The authorities conduct their procedures separately, without overlap, but in the same crossing point, allowing for smoother traffic without the need for individuals or vehicles to move between two different locations.
