PHOTO // Speaker: Ethnic diversity - strength of Moldova and argument for European integration
The Republic of Moldova is enriched by the diversity of its people, and the unity among ethnic communities is an essential condition for the country's European path. Speaker Igor Grosu made the statement today at National Forum of Ethnic Minorities 2025. The event brought together ethnic minority leaders, government representatives, diplomats and experts in Chisinau.
The official emphasized the importance of social cohesion, noting that over time, there have been forces trying to divide society on ethnic grounds. According to Igor Grosu, citizens of the Republic of Moldova, regardless of ethnicity, have demonstrated that they can live together in peace and rise above such attempts.
Furthermore, the Speaker highlighted European Union integration as a major state objective, noting that respect for diversity, cultures, languages, traditions and religions is one of the fundamental values of the European family. Igor Grosu said that these principles are shared by Moldovan society and are an important reason for joining the EU.
The National Forum of Ethnic Minorities 2025 aims to promote dialogue and cooperation between communities and institutions, addressing topics such as the role of minorities in state development, the relationship between Gagauzia and Chisinau, European policies for minorities, the involvement of young people and women from ethnic communities, and combating misinformation in multiethnic regions.
The event is attended by representatives of the European Union Delegation, the Embassy of Switzerland, Konrad Adenauer Foundation, members of the European Parliament, and national and international experts. The forum is organized by the Civic Initiatives Center for National Minorities, in partnership with the Agency for Interethnic Relations, with support from Switzerland and Konrad Adenauer Foundation in the Republic of Moldova.
