
Acting President of Romania on official visit to Chișinău
Acting President of Romania Ilie Bolojan is paying an official visit to the Republic of Moldova today.
The official will meet with President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu, and afterwards, the two heads of state will hold a press conference.
“The meeting will reaffirm the special relationship between the Republic of Moldova and Romania, based on a community of language, history, and culture, and will emphasize the common commitment to deepen bilateral cooperation for the benefit of citizens on both sides of the Prut River,” the Moldovan Presidency has reported in a press release.
According to the program announced by the Presidential Administration in Bucharest, Ilie Bolojan will also meet in Chișinău with Speaker Igor Grosu and Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
Ilie Bolojan said on Friday, in a press conference, that he comes to Chișinău with the “idea of partnership, support and collaboration.”
“As always, the Republic of Moldova has been a special issue for Romania, a duty for us. We go, as always, with the idea of supporting them and finding ways of collaboration so that things go as well as possible both for them and for us. We go with the idea of partnership, support and collaboration, as we have always done,” said Ilie Bolojan, quoted by Agerpres.
Ilie Bolojan officially took over the mandate of interim president of Romania on February 12, following Klaus Iohannis's resignation.
Since 2014, Romania has been the main commercial partner of the Republic of Moldova. According to official data, the commercial-economic relations between the Republic of Moldova and Romania enjoy robust dynamics.
In over 30 years of bilateral relations, with Romania's help, several large-scale strategic projects have been implemented in the Republic of Moldova, including the construction of the Iași-Chișinău gas pipeline, the renovation of kindergartens and cultural buildings, the creation of the SMURD program, aid in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, and support in overcoming the energy crisis.
