Details on case of truck with weapons detected at Moldovan-Romanian border
The Customs Service will conduct an internal investigation, in order to identify any potential element of corruption or security breach in the case of the truck with weapons detected at the Leuseni-Albita border crossing last night. The head of the institution, Radu Vrabie, has made statements to this effect.
The official emphasized that this case has showed the importance of possessing advanced scanning equipment at all border crossing points.
‘’The truck with weapons las night was discovered by the Romanian customs authority, after the customs service officer on the Moldovan side requested the initiation of a check, given that the scanner is on the Romanian side. This case also shows us how important it is to have advanced scanning equipment at all border crossing points,’’ Radu Vrabie said.
The official specified that, in this case, investigative actions would be carried out, in collaboration with Romanian institutions and law-enforcement bodies of Moldova.
'"The Customs Service has notified the Prosecutor's Office, a criminal investigation has been initiated, and we are most interested in having this crime investigated as soon as possible. National security, border security is our fundamental priority, and any violation of this will be severely punished. In collaboration with Romanian institutions and law-enforcement bodies of Moldova, the Customs Service will conduct its own internal investigation, in order to identify any potential element of corruption or security breach,’’ said Radu Vrabie.
A truck with weapons was detained at the Leuseni-Albita border crossing last night. The vehicle is registered in Moldova and was heading to Israel.
According to the Romanian press, the truck allegedly transported grenade launchers and more dismantled weapons. The parts were to be assembled at the final destination.
