Moldovan Foreign Affairs Ministry condemns reported aerial incident in two central districts

The Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) strongly condemns the unauthorized overflight of Moldova’s airspace by an aircraft resembling a drone, noticed on the night of September 20 in the area of Berezlogi, Orhei district, and Dereneu, Calarasi district.

According to the MAE, an explosion in flight was subsequently reported in the area of Dereneu. The police checked the indicated areas; however, based on preliminary investigations, no fragments, impact marks or fires were found to confirm that an object had fallen or that an explosion had occurred on the ground.

The MAE considers the incident an unacceptable violation of Moldova’s airspace and a direct threat to the security and safety of citizens.

“Moldova strongly condemns such incidents and reiterates that the country’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and airspace must be fully respected,” the Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a message.

The police are continuing their checks to establish all circumstances and document the case.

The MAE reiterated that any unauthorized overflight of the national airspace is unacceptable.
