Moldovan PM tells opposition lawmakers all should row in same direction, country needs solutions, not gimmicks
“We must all row in the same direction and come up with concrete solutions to the problems faced by the country, so that we can achieve the goals we have set.” Prime Minister Vasile Tofan conveyed this message to opposition lawmakers, who came to the government today to attend the news conference dedicated to presenting the cabinet’s activity report for the first 100 days since its investiture.
The lawmakers attended the news conference and, at the end, asked the prime minister questions. In response, the prime minister addressed a message to them and urged them to focus more on solutions to existing problems, as the country needs concrete action, not “lies, fabrications or viral videos.”
“Democracy is noisy, complicated and critical, and no matter how complicated democracy may be, I am open to it. That is why, I waited for you to ask questions, and I welcome even critical questions. I encourage you to remain critical, because that is what an opposition does. At the same time, I have a request. Many of your questions were not focused on concrete issues or on expecting an answer, but were questions meant to make a political statement, or to help you appear on television in the evening or on TikTok. My request is that, since you are MPs and have a responsibility toward the country, and receive a salary from this country, we focus more on solutions, not just on viral videos or lies about Giurgiulesti. We have far too many problems and far too little time to solve them. You cannot build a country with lies, fabrications and circus. I came to serve my country; I have given me three years for this, and I have no plans afterward. I asked my family to support me, and I received the confidence of the party and of a parliamentary majority. I take this position seriously. During these three years, together with the government team, I want to focus on solutions. I have no time for gimmicks, no time for politics; the situation is far too complicated. Please, make an effort to understand that we are in a complicated situation and that we should all row in the same direction and contribute. We must focus on solutions, not gimmicks,” Prime Minister Vasile Tofan told the opposition lawmakers.
Today, Prime Minister Vasile Tofan presented a report on the results achieved by the government during its first 100 days in office. The document includes 182 results, decisions and projects completed or initiated. According to the official, during the government’s first 100 days in office, an extensive agenda of reforms and economic priorities was set in motion during a particularly challenging period.
