Moldovan president, Ukrainian counterpart reaffirm commitment to European integration in Tirana
President of the Republic of Moldova Maia Sandu met with her Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, in Tirana on the sidelines of the sixth edition of the European Political Community (EPC) Summit. The meeting between the two leaders took place in the context of joint efforts by Chisinau and Kyiv to advance on the path to European integration.
During the discussions, Maia Sandu and Volodymyr Zelensky reaffirmed the European aspirations of the countries they lead and their strong commitment to reforms and peace in the region.
“Together with President Zelenskyy, in Tirana, we reaffirmed that the future of Moldova and Ukraine is European. Our countries are making great efforts together for peace, prosperity, and a safer life for our citizens. Our accession will make Europe stronger and more united,” declared Maia Sandu.
The head of state appreciated the discussion with the Ukrainian leader as productive and emphasized that both the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine are making constant efforts to achieve their common goal of integrating into the European Union, based on the citizens' aspirations, commitment to reforms, and the vision of a peaceful and democratic Europe.
During the summit, Maia Sandu has scheduled meetings with several European leaders, including President of France Emmanuel Macron and Acting President of Romania Ilie Bolojan. She is also set to meet with Prime Ministers of Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, and other high-ranking officials.
The discussion agenda focuses on strengthening peace and security in the region, supporting the economic resilience of the Republic of Moldova, promoting projects to improve quality of life, and supporting the EU accession path.
The European Political Community, initiated by French President Emmanuel Macron, serves as a platform for political dialogue between EU member states and countries outside the community bloc. The inaugural summit took place in Prague in October 2022, and the second edition was hosted by the Republic of Moldova in June 2023.
