Moldovan parliament concludes spring–summer session; parliament speaker extraordinary meeting to be held on August 24

CHISINAU, July 30 /MOLDPRES/ - The parliament of Moldova today concluded its ordinary spring–summer session, after lawmakers adopted the Resolution on the conclusion of the first 2026 ordinary session. The document, read out in plenary by Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, was approved with 67 votes for, one against, while 15 MPs abstained from voting. The resolution entered into force upon its adoption.

During the closing ceremony, the National Anthem of Moldova and the Anthem of the European Union were performed by the "Balada" Choir from the village of Magdacesti, Criuleni district, under the baton of conductor Diana Maxim.

Founded in 2010, the "Balada" Choir brings together 39 teenagers and young people passionate about vocal-symphonic and choral music. The ensemble has won numerous awards at national and international competitions and festivals.

At the end of the meeting, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu officially declared the session closed and thanked both lawmakers and the parliament staff for their work.

"Dear colleagues, thank you for the work you have done during this session. I also thank the parliament staff for their professionalism and dedication. We are concluding this session, and I look forward to seeing you again on August 24," Igor Grosu said.

In an exclusive interview with MOLDPRES, the speaker described the agenda of this parliamentary session as "highly ambitious," stressing that 2026 has been and continues to be a decisive year for Moldova's European integration path.

"It has been and continues to be a very important year, marked by major developments, especially in terms of European integration. One of our greatest achievements has been the opening of negotiations on two key clusters – 'Fundamentals' and 'External Relations.' It was important not to lose time and to continue implementing reforms even in the absence of a formal political decision. I believe this was the right approach," Igor Grosu said.





The speaker noted that Moldova has six negotiating clusters covering more than 30 chapters, and that opening the first two clusters represents a significant milestone in the country's accession process to the European Union. According to him, the authorities are now working toward opening the remaining four clusters in cooperation with EU member states.

Igor Grosu also highlighted the parliament's role in this process, noting that numerous laws must be aligned with European legislation and adopted at a sustained pace.

"The parliament has its own role in this process, because many laws must be amended in line with European directives and our commitments. These draft laws are debated in parliament, and we must adopt them in an organized and predictable manner. We are not always able to move at the pace we would like," Grosu said.

He reiterated that, although the ordinary session had ended, the parliament would reconvene in an extraordinary session to examine priority legislation.

"We have not managed to accomplish everything we planned. This happens every time because our objectives are ambitious, and there are always projects that still need to be completed," Igor Grosu said.

According to the speaker, the parliament will hold an extraordinary session from August 24 to 26, to examine and pass, in the second reading, more important draft laws, so that they can enter into force in September.







The head of the legislature also recalled that the European Commission's interim report on Moldova's progress received a positive assessment last year, and that the authorities aim for this year's report to be at least as good, if not better.

"This report is important for our accession negotiations, for opening the remaining clusters, and ultimately for achieving our goal of joining the European Union. We still have a great deal of work ahead of us, but I am pleased to see that our colleagues remain fully committed, and we will do everything possible to meet the deadlines we have set," Igor Grosu said.

The speaker emphasized that the coming autumn would be particularly demanding in terms of European integration, with the parliament expected to adopt numerous legislative acts aimed at harmonizing Moldova's national legislation with the EU acquis.

"We have a very busy autumn ahead, with numerous legislative initiatives to align our national legislation with the European Union acquis. Both the parliament and the government will have to remain well organized, work in close coordination, and fulfill all the commitments we have undertaken in the European integration process," Igor Grosu said.

Referring to the parliamentary recess, the speaker said he would spend most of his vacation in Moldova.

"I will go to the countryside, visit my mother and my mother-in-law, and spend time with my family," Igor Grosu concluded.
