New development projects in Moldova with Turkey’s support; negotiation of cooperation protocol approved
Moldova and Turkey will negotiate a new cooperation protocol on the general terms and conditions for development. The parliamentary commission for foreign policy today approved the negotiation and signing of the document, which will allow the implementation of development projects and programmes with the support of the Turkish side.
The cooperation protocol will establish the legal and institutional framework necessary for implementing development projects in Moldova through the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA).
According to the document, the cooperation between the two states will target more priority areas, including economic development, agriculture and the agri-food industry, infrastructure, energy, environmental protection, education, health and culture.
The new protocol also provides for strengthening institutional capacities and supporting small and medium-sized enterprises in Moldova.
The document will replace the similar agreement signed Moldova and Turkey in 2015, which is due to expire in November 2026. The new protocol will be concluded for a period of five years, with the possibility of automatic extension for successive periods, if the sides agree to continue the cooperation.
According to information published by the Foreign Affairs Ministry, the bilateral legal framework between Moldova and Turkey includes 68 bilateral agreements.
