VIDEO // Local public administration reform advances In Moldova; government's secretary general says another 165 mayoralties adopt final decisions on voluntary amalgamation
Another 165 mayoralties have adopted final decisions on voluntary amalgamation. Thus, 98 of them are merging into 33 larger and stronger mayoralties. Secretary General of the Government Alexei Buzu presented data to this effect on July 24.
According to the official, there are 142,000 people living in these localities and more than half a billion lei will be allocated for development projects.
“The money will be provided according to the commitments made and the established schedule. The process continues throughout the country. Today, another 48 town halls will make final decisions on merging,” noted Alexei Buzu.
The secretary general of the government thanked citizens and mayors for the support they provide in the process of voluntary amalgamation.
“Together we are building stronger mayoralties and better services for people,” emphasized Alexei Buzu.
The voluntary amalgamation process will end on July 31, 2026 and subsequently, starting in August, the government will launch the normative amalgamation process. During the voluntary stage, localities can independently decide with whom they merge, how they organize their administration and what their priorities are, while the government supports communities with development incentives.
According to data presented by the authorities, more than one thousand voluntary amalgamation decisions have been approved so far, which means that around 70 percent of the country’s mayoralties are involved in this process.
