Venice Commission to provide assistance to Moldova in carrying out justice reform
Chisinau, 20 October /MOLDPRES/- Venice Commission President Gianni Buquicchio announced today in a press conference that the institution he represents will provide assistance to the Republic of Moldova in carrying out the justice reform, and in the coming weeks will come with an opinion on the amendments to the Prosecutor's Law.
The official said that the current government should make changes to the legislation with caution and not rush. "In the discussions with the parliamentary majority, we emphasized the importance of not confusing urgency with haste. The new majority was chosen by Moldovans to achieve certain goals, effective justice and a better life, "said Buquicchio.
He said that it was decided to form a working group that will provide assistance to the Chisinau authorities in reforming the judiciary. Buquicchio urged the current government to work with the opposition and civil society "to find solutions based on a broad consensus."
A Council of Europe working group, which also includes Gianni Buquicchio is visiting Chisinau on October 19-21.
