The ceremony of handing over the responsibilities between the KFOR-24 and KFOR-25 contingents took place in the presence of the superior of the Regional Command-West, Colonel Giuseppe De Blasi, as well as the military stationed at the multinational base, Camp Villaggio Italia.
The commander of the KFOR-24 contingent, Major Ilie Ciobanu, handed over the flag and the responsibilities of the commanding position to the new contingent commander, Major Anton Pugaci, who will lead the Moldovan servicemen over the next six months.
At the same time, the soldiers of the KFOR-24 contingent were decorated with the medal for participation in the peacekeeping operation, as a sign of recognition for the service performed within the international mission.
During their mandate, the soldiers of the KFOR-25 contingent will carry out guard and defense operations for strategically important objectives, missions to ensure the security of the Camp Villaggio Italia base, including the Dečani Monastery, as well as engineering reconnaissance activities and detection of explosive objects in the area of responsibility.
The participation of Moldovan servicemen in the KFOR operation represents one of the international missions through which Moldova contributes to efforts to maintain peace and security.
The KFOR (Kosovo Force) mission is an international peacekeeping force led by NATO, established in 1999.
