Coaches of Moldova to have professional day, marked annually on September 25

Moldova will have a professional day dedicated to coaches. The parliament has adopted a draft decision establishing Coaches’ Day, which will be annually marked on September 25.

The professional holiday aims to recognize the contribution of coaches to the development of sports and to the training of new generations of sportspeople. The initiative highlights their role in all sports fields – from performance sports and sports for children and juniors, to Paralympic sports, mass sports and sports practiced at community level. At the same time, it seeks to increase the prestige of the coaching profession, to encourage continuous professional development and to motivate young people to choose a career in this field.

According to the draft, on Coaches’ Day it will be possible to organize ceremonies to recognize the merits of coaches, competitions and sports activities, conferences, seminars, educational programs, information campaigns and actions to promote the coaching profession. The events will be carried out by the institutions responsible for sports, in partnership with public authorities, sports federations, educational institutions and other specialized organizations.

The author of the legislative initiative, an MP of the Action and Solidarity Party (PAS) Maxim Potarniche, emphasizes that coaches play an essential role in the development of the sports system. In addition to the technical and physical training of athletes, they contribute to character building, cultivating discipline, team spirit, and social inclusion through sports. According to the lawmaker, the results achieved by sportspeople representing Moldova at national and international competitions are closely linked to the work of coaches; that is why, their activity deserves broader public recognition.

The choice of the date of September 25 is aligned with Global Coaches Day, marked internationally, as well as with the European Week of Sport, held under the auspices of the European Commission.

Coaches’ Day will have a professional and symbolic character, and September 25 will not be declared a public holiday. The decision will enter into force on the date of its publication in the Official Journal of Moldova.
