Moldova Business Week 2026 starts in Chișinău

One of the Republic of Moldova’s most important economic platforms – Moldova Business Week (MBW) 2026 – began today in Chișinău. The event, now in its 11th edition, brings together investors, exporters, companies, financial institutions and decision-makers from the country and abroad to discuss the country’s economic development through European economic integration, attracting investment and expanding exports.

Every year, Moldova Business Week creates opportunities for dialogue, investment and partnerships between the local business community and the international community. The focus of the 2026 edition is to connect local companies with external markets, capital and partners, as the Republic of Moldova consolidates its European path and seeks new directions for economic expansion. Through its format, Moldova Business Week 2026 aims to strengthen the Republic of Moldova’s position as an attractive destination for investment, innovation and international economic partnerships.

At the opening of the event, Prime Minister Vasile Tofan emphasized that the Government intends to implement the reforms necessary for the Republic of Moldova to become a more entrepreneur-friendly country by reducing bureaucracy, procedures and unnecessary rules. According to the official, when entrepreneurs invest, create jobs, export and pay taxes, society as a whole benefits.

“We must be tenacious every day. We cannot decide when the war in Ukraine will end. We cannot decide what the outcome of elections in Europe will be, but there are several things that we can control and decide. And I believe this is the greatest opportunity for the Republic of Moldova. We have political stability; this government intends to remain in office until the next parliamentary elections in 2029. We still have three years ahead of us, during which we intend to persevere with the reforms and make the country more entrepreneur-friendly. This means fewer unnecessary rules, faster permits, predictable access and a more efficient state, better infrastructure and a government that understands that when entrepreneurs invest, create jobs, export and pay taxes, all of us, as a society, benefit,” he said.

Vasile Tofan stressed that the Republic of Moldova can achieve robust economic development despite being a small country.

“We will never win through the size of our domestic market alone, but we can win through agility and speed. We can change inefficient regulations when necessary. We can test things rapidly at the national level, whereas for other, larger countries this would take more time. We compensate for our size by being more open and facilitating trade relations,” the official said.

Vasile Tofan also emphasized that our country could become a platform for companies seeking to participate in the reconstruction of Ukraine.

At the same time, advancing along the European path offers significant opportunities for the country’s economy, Vasile Tofan believes.

“This is our national project, what unites us as a country and as a government – to take Moldova into the European Union, and we must make the most of this opportunity,” the prime minister said.

According to statistical data presented by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan, exports of products and goods from the Republic of Moldova increased by 12 percent in the first half of the year, while the IT industry and medical tourism each recorded 20 percent growth. The tourism and pharmaceutical industries experienced rapid growth.

“These are sectors with growth potential. This is how economic transformation takes place. We identify the opportunities that work, remove obstacles, bring in capital and help scale up these sectors. This is what we want to focus on at Moldova Business Week – more concrete opportunities, manufacturing, infrastructure, logistics, tourism, healthcare and topics related to the possible reconstruction of Ukraine,” Prime Minister Vasile Tofan emphasized.

He also delivered a special message to foreign investors, inviting them to examine opportunities for expanding their businesses in our country.

“Today’s message to investors is simple – now is the time to be active. Come and take a serious look at the Republic of Moldova. Bring capital, bring technologies, build infrastructure and service opportunities, and use Moldova as a base for this region. Our commitment, as a Government, is very simple: if we play by the rules, if you pay your taxes and seriously invest in the Republic of Moldova, our government will support you in this effort. If something is holding you back, we will analyze it and try to help,” Vasile Tofan concluded.

European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos addressed the event via video, emphasizing that the Republic of Moldova is becoming increasingly attractive to entrepreneurs. According to her, reforms for joining the European Union are creating a strong business environment, bringing predictability and legal certainty, and targeting strong administrative capacity.

“I would like to begin by congratulating you on carrying out high-quality enlargement reforms at an impressive pace. The progress of your reforms is strengthening confidence. Europe sees your progress. Investors do too. Moldova is becoming increasingly attractive. Your reform agenda provides a solid foundation on which Moldova must now build, as well as a strong business case, with ambition and decisive momentum. Reforms for joining the European Union are creating a strong business environment. They bring predictability, legal certainty and strong administrative capacity. All of these form the basis for investment, greater productivity, stronger growth and jobs at home. As investors pay increasing attention to Moldova’s potential, we must intensify our efforts for the country’s economic future. Moldovan producers are gradually gaining access to the opportunities and benefits of our single market. More will follow, step by step, ahead of full accession,” the European commissioner said.

The official emphasized that the EU has allocated a financial package of 1.9 billion euros to Moldova through the end of 2027, while a renewed major financial support package beginning in 2028 is currently being prepared.

“This support must attract private investment in key sectors, in close cooperation with international financial institutions. Moldova has much to offer international investors. You have a strategic position at the gateway to European markets, skilled people and sectors with enormous potential, from digital industries to manufacturing and logistics. Whoever invests in Moldova today is investing in a European success story. Let us roll up our sleeves and work together. Moldova’s moment is now,” Marta Kos said.

Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization Claudiu Năsui said at the event that the Republic of Moldova is entering a new stage of economic development, and that the Government intends to pursue ambitious reforms to modernize the economy.

“Moldova is entering a new stage, one in which we must think differently about our economy. If we want stronger companies, more significant investment and an economy capable of competing at the European level, we need more sources of capital and modern financial instruments. (...) This government will modernize Moldova’s economy,” the minister said.

Moldova Business Week 2026 will run through Friday, October 2. Over five days, participants will have access to thematic forums, B2B meetings, sectoral roundtables and study visits to regions. The agenda of Moldova Business Week 2026 includes the Capital Market Forum, the Export Forum, the Moldova Real Estate Forum 2026, the FIA Investment Safari, study visits to companies in the fashion industry and the high-level FIA dialogue “European Integration from the Perspective of Foreign Investors”.

The activities on this year’s agenda will address topics such as access to financing, export development, investment in strategic sectors, the competitiveness of Moldovan companies and the role of foreign investment in the process of European economic integration.
