Moldova concludes analysis of Chapter 12; deputy PM for European integration says farmers to have greater chances to enter European market

Moldova has concluded the analysis of Chapter 12 of its EU accession negotiations, which concerns food safety, sanitary and phytosanitary policy. Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Cristina Gherasimov has made statements to this effect.

"Implementing policies from this chapter means safer and higher quality food products on people's tables, enhancing confidence in what we produce at home and consume daily. Farmers will have greater opportunities to enter the European market and export without additional border checks. Also, they will have greater access to European programmes and funding for agricultural development," stated Gherasimov.

The deputy PM also emphasized the regional aspect of this process, noting that Moldova and Ukraine have together passed this stage of negotiations in Brussels.

"This week, both we and our Ukrainian neighbors are in Brussels to compare our national legislation with European standards regarding agriculture and food security. We work side by side for a future where peace and respect for the law are paramount, and states stand by each other in good times and bad, like a family," the official noted.

According to Cristina Gherasimov, Moldova's European path also involves strengthening the fundamental values of the Union:

"A future in the European Union, where independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity are observed without compromise."

The goal of Moldova’s government and the European Commission is to open negotiations on all six clusters by the end of this year, and the process is to be concluded in 2028, with the signing of the agreement on accession to the European Union.
