Moldova, Romania strengthen cooperation for regional development

New directions for bilateral cooperation and strategic projects in infrastructure and regional development today were discussed by acting Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Infrastructure and Regional Development Vladimir Bolea at a meeting with an official delegation from Romania, led by MP Stefan Musoiu.

“At the Ministry of Infrastructure and Regional Development (MIDR), our priority is to create decent living conditions for all citizens of Moldova. To achieve this goal, we constantly invest in the development of localities and changes are already visible. An important role in this process is played by bilateral and trilateral projects, especially with Romania, which contribute to the modernization of infrastructure and strengthening of cooperation. All these efforts bring us closer to European integration,” said Vladimir Bolea.

The discussions were attended by the interim Secretary General of the Government, Ana Calinici, representatives of Regional Development Agencies of  Moldova, mayors and local government officials from Romania.

The sides reviewed the status of ongoing joint projects and identified new areas for collaboration, especially regarding road and rail infrastructure. Main topics included the construction of the Iasi–Ungheni–Chisinau–Odessa highway; the modernization of the first electrified railway section; and the Bridge of Flowers and Cantemir–Falciu Bridge projects.

The Moldovan official also highlighted the progress made through the national programmes, European Village I, European Village II and European Village Express, aimed at accelerating the modernization of local infrastructure and reducing development gaps between regions.

“Where there are real partnerships, there is progress. Our relationship with Romania is a concrete example of efficient cooperation for the benefit of citizens,” added Bolea.

The meeting reaffirmed the commitment of both sides to strengthen cross-border collaboration and develop joint projects that will contribute to bringing Moldova closer to European standards and practices.
