Maintenance works carried out on main runway at Chisinau Airport: flights to be temporarily operated on alternative runway
The main take-off and landing runway of the Chisinau International Airport will be closed for two weeks, because of maintenance and modernization works.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), starting from October 29 till November 12, the alternative runway will be used.
The authority says that these measures are essential for maintaining aviation safety standards and ensuring the continuity of flight operations under optimal conditions. At the same time, citizens are asked to show understanding in the event of possible temporary increases in noise levels or other inconveniences caused by air traffic redirection.
“During the interventions, all flight operations will be temporarily redirected to the alternative runway, which meets the necessary technical and safety conditions for commercial aircraft operations. The commercial flight schedule will not be significantly altered and airlines will inform passengers of any minor schedule adjustments. Airlines and the control tower will apply appropriate instrumental take-off and landing procedures, in order to ensure the operation of flights under optimal conditions. Also, on the aforementioned period, the perceived noise level in some areas near the airport (Bacioi Commune, Revaca, Sangera, and Botanica sector) may be slightly higher, due to the change in take-off and landing direction,” said sources of the Civil Aviation Authority, contacted by MOLDPRES.
Additionally, the institution provides recommendations for passengers.
“Check the updated flight schedule on the airline's or Chisinau International Airport's website. Arrive at the airport at least 2 hours before domestic flights and 3 hours before international flights. Follow the airport staff's instructions in case of temporary changes to passenger flow.”
