Moldova today is hosting an international conference titled, Multi-level governance approaches for strengthening democratic resilience and building public trust, held in the context of Moldova’s Presidency of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe.

The event brought together representatives of national, local and regional authorities, European institutions and international organizations, as well as experts and civil society representatives. The discussions focused on cooperation between different levels of government, citizens’ participation in decision-making processes and the provision of better public services for people.

Attending the event, Secretary General of the Government Alexei Buzu emphasized that citizens’ trust and democratic resilience were built day by day, through transparent, accountable governance carried out together with the people. The head of the State Chancellery noted that the local public administration reform represented an opportunity to empower citizens and to provide local elected officials with greater administrative capacity and resources, in order to effectively meet communities’ needs.

"We must ensure that, regardless of where we work — in a ministry, an agency, a mayoralty or any other public institution — no child, no family and no person in difficulty remains invisible. I hope that, in a few years, we will be able to look back with pride on this reform, as a necessary step towards stronger mayoralties, more developed localities and better services for people," said Alexei Buzu.

The participants in the conference exchanged good practices on public consultation, cooperation between authorities and citizens’ involvement in reform processes. The discussions also covered international experiences in the field of local public administration reform, improving the delivery of public services and developing inter-municipal and inter-regional cooperation.
