Government approved digital transformation program for energy sector for 2026–2030
Households will be able to manage energy consumption more efficiently through the continued installation of smart meters, and networks will be modernized, significantly reducing energy losses. The government has approved the Digital Transformation Program for the energy sector for 2026–2030.
According to the document, by 2027, 100,000 vulnerable households will be equipped with smart meters, and a total of 500,000 meters will be installed, covering at least 40% of residential consumers, with priority given to vulnerable families as well as urban areas.
The program also contributes significantly to the efficiency and modernization of energy networks, reducing losses to 10%, which will generate annual savings of approximately 200 million lei. The program will also reduce operational costs by 20–25% by 2030, providing more affordable rates for consumers and increased competitiveness for businesses.
At the same time, the program will ensure the real-time collection, analysis, and reporting of data on energy production, import, and consumption. Information will be available to authorities, suppliers and consumers.
The digital transformation also has a major impact on the green transition. Thus, the capacity to integrate renewable sources will increase from 150 MW to 600 MW by 2030.
