Digital assessment debut for ninth, twelfth grade pupils in Moldova

Ninth and twelfth grade students will have the opportunity to test their digital skills through a national assessment, with results included in their graduation diploma. The initiative, launched by the Ministry of Education and Research (MEC), along  with the National Agency for Curriculum and Assessment, aims to measure and certify the level of young people's digital skills, according to the European DigiComp standards.

The assessment format and standards used are based on DigiComp - the European digital competence framework for citizens.

“We have adopted these standards and, in partnership with a Romanian company, developed an assessment system that allows testing these competencies and assigning results, based on students' performance during the assessment test,” said Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun.

The registration process has already started and the MEC expects about 2,000 ninth grade pupils and about 1,000 twelfth grade pupils to take part in this opportunity.

“This initiative will enable students to check their digital skills and ultimately get an official certification, included in the graduation diploma,” noted the minister.

The digital skills’ assessment process will be conducted via the platform www.md.brio.ro, which guarantees data security and confidentiality and can be accessed from any type of device.

“The testing will be carried out on the www.md.brio.ro platform, which guarantees data security and confidentiality and can be accessed from any device. The platform already includes sample tests, so that students can familiarize themselves with the item’s structure. This test is a first for Moldova, inspired by regional and international experience where such assessments represent a common practice,” said Lilia Ivanov, director of the National Agency for Curriculum and Assessment.

The assessment will cover five essential areas of digital competence: information and data literacy, communication and collaboration, digital content creation, safety, and problem-solving. Depending on the score got, pupils will be assigned one of three competency levels: elementary, intermediate or advanced. Each participant will receive a certificate confirming the level achieved and this official confirmation will be included in his/her graduation diploma.
