Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration on gas delivery to Transnistrian region

Energy institutions are keeping all processes regarding the delivery of gas on the left bank of the Dniester under control and are preparing possible scenarios depending on the situation there. Additionally, the aid provided by the European Union for the Transnistrian region remains valid, with the necessity to meet conditions that support the residents of the left bank of the Dniester. Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Roman Roșca made the statement today.

The official emphasized that the government is currently monitoring the gas delivery situation in the Transnistrian region. The Deputy Prime Minister also mentioned the connection of localities in the security zone to the right bank of the Dniester's infrastructure.

"This year, localities in the security zone - Copanca, Hârbovăț, Hagimus, and Fârlădeni - were connected to the right bank of the Dniester's infrastructure. Recently, localities from the left bank such as Coșnița, Doroțcaia, and Pârâta were also connected to the energy infrastructure. A few vulnerable localities remain, namely Varnița and localities in Cocieri, Molovata Nouă, and Corjova, where the networks are managed by Tiraspoltransgaz, but we are in dialogue and hope that shortly we will overcome the delivery issues there," he said.

The official said that according to information provided by Moldovagaz, payments will be resumed shortly, and gas will be delivered to the region.

Regarding the conditions under which the EU's aid for the Transnistrian region could be offered, the official pointed out that "it is about adjusting tariffs, respecting human rights, ensuring free movement and journalists' access to the area, effective operation of Romanian language schools, and farmers' access to land in the area."

"At this stage, it is very important for residents of the left bank of the Dniester to understand that it is best to align with national standards and legislation, so they are no longer captive to decisions made to their detriment and are no longer used as a tool for coercion," stated Roman Roșca.

Minister of Energy Dorin Junghietu mentioned that so far, there have been no gas delivery requests from Tiraspol.

"Last year, the Republic of Moldova supported the Transnistrian region. This year will be the same. Moldovagaz is the entity supplying gas to the left bank, and by the beginning of October, they had already purchased 50% of the 57 million needed as a security stock, which is part of their storage obligations," noted Dorin Junghietu.

Starting January 1, 2025, the Russian company "Gazprom" unjustifiably suspended the delivery of natural gas to "Moldovagaz," even though there is a valid contract until 2026, leaving consumers in the Transnistrian region without natural gas and, consequently, without electricity, heat, and hot water.

In the created situation, the European Union allocated a grant of 30 million euros for the procurement of necessary energy resources for both consumers on the left and right banks of the Dniester. Additionally, the EU offered assistance of 60 million euros to meet the energy needs of the Transnistrian region. However, the support was refused by Tiraspol.

In mid-August 2025, the National Energy Regulatory Agency designated Moldovagaz as the entity responsible for supplying natural gas to the Transnistrian region until March 31, 2026.
