Former Moldovan MP missed trial for illicit enrichment; court orders his forced apprehension

A former MP of the Moldovan Democratic Party (PDM), Constantin Tutu, did not attend the scheduled court hearing today, in a case where he is accused of illicit enrichment. His lawyer was also absent. The judges decided on the forced apprehension of the suspect and fined the lawyer with 2,000 lei.

The judges granted the prosecutors' request and imposed a 2,000-lei fine on the lawyer for unjustified non-appearance. At the same time, to avoid further delays, the judge decided that Constantin Tutu will be assigned a court-appointed lawyer.

Additionally, the judge issued an order for the forced appearance of the defendant at the next scheduled hearing on October 20, 2025.

Constantin Tutu risks up to seven years of imprisonment for illicit enrichment.

The former parliamentarian was detained by border police at the Vulcanesti crossing point on the evening of October 2. The ex-lawmaker was declared internationally wanted on September 24, 2025, after missing the court session.

Constantin Tutu was detained in Athens in last July, together with the former PDM leader, Vlad Plahotniuc. He was released by the Greek judiciary on September 3, 2025.

The former MP is investigated for influence peddling and illicit enrichment. Initially, his cases reached the judges' desks in May 2020 and November 2021, later being consolidated into a single case, currently examined at the Chisinau Court.
