Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Valeriu Chiveri held a working meeting with the co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

The Deputy Prime Minister presented the priorities and general approaches of the authorities of the Republic of Moldova in promoting reintegration policies, the current state of affairs in the Transnistrian region, as well as the measures taken at governmental level to resolve the pressing problems of residents on both banks of the Dniester River. Special attention was devoted to the precarious human rights situation in the eastern districts of the country and to the artificial barriers to free movement within the Security Zone.

The efforts made by the authorities of the Republic of Moldova to overcome existing difficulties and to guarantee the observance of fundamental human rights and freedoms were highlighted. The principled position of Chisinau was reconfirmed to promote a peaceful and final settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, within the internationally recognized borders of the country and with full respect for its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
