Delegation of Moldova addresses circumstances straining work of Joint Control Commission
A weekly meeting of the Joint Control Commission took place in Bender city on June 18, 2026.
The Delegation of Moldova presented its position regarding the factors that had led to the worsening of the situation in the Security Zone and to the deadlock in the activity of the JCC: the illegal presence of Transnistrian power wielding structures’ checkpoints on public roads, the stopping, registration and abusive checks to which citizens crossing them are subjected, as well as the obstruction of access for media outlets from the right bank of Dniester to JCC meetings, preventing them from exercising their professional duties.
The Chisinau representatives highlighted Tiraspol’s constant attempts to politicize the work of the JCC and stressed that, after years of serious infringements of the 21 July 1992 Agreement, the Transnistrian delegation was now openly expressing dissatisfaction even with the title of this document, in particular with the use of the words “Transnistrian region of Moldova”.
The Delegation of Moldova proposed that a request be addressed to the representatives of the OSCE Mission to Moldova and of Ukraine in the Joint Control Commission, in order to consider the activities of the Transnistrian power welding structures at the checkpoints in the Security Zone and to assess them in terms of their compliance with the basic documents of the peacekeeping operation and with the decisions adopted within the JCC.
The delegation of Moldova also requested that the issue of the inadmissibility of the presence of “border guards” in the Security Zone be placed on the agenda, since the restriction of the freedom of movement of persons and goods, unjustified checks, the illegal registration of citizens, as well as the continuous expansion of the infrastructure of these checkpoints constitute serious violations of human rights and destabilize the situation in the area of responsibility of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces.
