Cooperation and strengthening partnership between Moldova and North Atlantic Alliance discussed at Foreign Ministry

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi held a meeting with Kevin Hamilton, NATO Deputy Assistant Secretary for Partnerships. New NATO Liaison Office chief Agne Gleveckaite also participated. The discussions focused on cooperation and strengthening the partnership between the Republic of Moldova and the North Atlantic Alliance, as well as on collaboration priorities for the coming period.

During the meeting, the parties examined opportunities to expand cooperation programs and ways to enhance the country’s resilience, including in preventing and countering disinformation, external interference, and hybrid and cyber threats.

A separate topic was the implementation of the main cooperation initiatives between the Republic of Moldova and NATO, including the Individual Tailored Partnership Programme (ITPP) for 2025–2028 and the Defence Capacity Building Initiative (DCBI) package aimed at strengthening the country’s security and defence capabilities.

Popșoi emphasized the importance of the partnership between the Republic of Moldova and NATO, established in 1994, which over the years has delivered concrete results. In this regard, our country’s interest was expressed in making full use of the Alliance’s expertise and assistance for the modernization of the national security and defence sector.

“We are open to continuing the cooperation and programmes offered by international partners, including NATO, for developing institutional capacities to respond to the current challenges and crises we are facing, including dealing with hybrid and cyber attacks. Strengthening national security and defence means greater safety for our citizens and, at the same time, an important contribution to the security of the entire region,” said Popșoi.

For his part, Kevin Hamilton praised the Republic of Moldova’s contribution to strengthening security in Europe through its participation in the KFOR peacekeeping operation in Kosovo. The NATO official reaffirmed the organization’s support and readiness to continue assisting our country’s modernization processes and reforms in line with democratic principles.

The sides exchanged views on regional security developments and international efforts to end the Russian Federation’s war of aggression against Ukraine, as well as its impact on the Republic of Moldova. They also highlighted the efforts of the authorities in Chişinău to achieve a peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict and the reintegration of the country.
