Moldovan parliament speaker says human factor behind incident that led to death of National Army soldier

Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has said that the tragic incident in the National Army, in which a young soldier lost his life after being shot, was caused by the failure to follow weapons-handling rules.

According to the speaker, the information presented by Defense Ministry shows  that the human factor was at the root of the tragedy.

"The human factor. Just yesterday, I had a discussion with the minister. The person who caused this incident committed certain violations of the rules for handling weapons. He was not supposed to do more than the instructions allowed him to do in the area designated for preparing weapons for another exercise," Igor Grosu said.

The parliament speaker specified that the competent bodies were investigating the case and that the persons responsible for violating safety regulations would be sanctioned in accordance with the law.

"There will be an investigation and, accordingly, those who do not observe these rules will be sanctioned," Grosu noted.

The official emphasized the importance of strictly complying with weapons-handling rules at military institutions.

"Attention to everyone: these are not toys," the parliament speaker stressed.

A conscript of the National Army died following an incident that occurred during the performance of service duties. Competent authorities are investigating the  exact circumstances of the case.
