Chisinau, 9 July /MOLDPRES/ - Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu, at the parliamentary forum on intelligence and security in Bucharest, on 8 July referred to the national security of Moldova in the current regional context. ”Our plans are not offensive; we should consolidate our national security, stability and resilience before any danger. The security of a state does not mean only military protection. The war started by Russia in Ukraine showed us how many threats and risks it brings with it for such a state as Moldova. We thoroughly analyzed each vulnerability and I want to assure you that all power wielding structures from Moldova work day and night to ensure the citizens’ security,’’ the parliament speaker stressed. According to the official, presently, decision-makers work intensely on a new security strategy of Moldova, which has at its basis the geopolitical realities and the economic capacities the country avails of. The parliament speaker noted that the document was complex and multidimensional and might ready in several months.
The parliament speaker also reiterated the fact that Moldova’s determination to boost the cooperation in the security and defence sector with the European Union had been materialized through the launch of the High-Level Dialogue in the Security Sector. In the context, the speaker thanked the European Union for the extension of the new instrument of the European Peace Facility for Moldova as well starting from 2021. In his message, Igor Grosu welcomed the recent decision by the Council of the European Union to provide additional assistance within the European Peace Facility worth 40 million euros for 2022, for the benefit of Moldova’s Armed Forces. ‘’We have many reliable friends in Europe and the United States and we will overcome all these problems only together,’’ the parliament speaker added.
