Moldovan, Romanian Prime Ministers visit Chisinau Electrical Substation
Prime Minister Vasile Tofan and Prime Minister of Romania Luca Niculescu visited the Chisinau Electrical Substation, part of the strategic project to build the Vulcanesti–Chisinau power line, which will strengthen the Republic of Moldova’s energy security.
During the visit, the officials were briefed on the progress of the works. The team responsible for implementing the project requested that the construction reception committee be convened. This represents the final stage before the power line is commissioned and placed into commercial operation.
The modernization works at the Chisinau Electrical Substation were carried out by the Romanian-German consortium consisting of Siemens Energy, Electromontaj, and Energotech, which was responsible for the design, supply, and installation of the equipment.
The 157-kilometre Vulcanesti–Chisinau power line will enable electricity to be transmitted from Romania directly to the centre of the Republic of Moldova. The project represents a strategic investment in the country’s energy independence and in strengthening energy connections with Romania and the European market. It is financed by the World Bank Group as part of the Moldova Electricity System Development Project.
