Strengthening Moldovan-Polish cooperation in energy sector discussed in Warsaw
Chisinau, 8 April /MOLDPRES/- Ways of consolidating Moldovan-Polish cooperation in energy sector were approached today at a bilateral meeting between Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, on a working visit to Warsaw, and Piotr Naimski, Secretary of State, Poland Government Plenipotentiary for Strategic Energy Infrastructure, the government's communication and protocol department has reported.
In the context of the regional crisis caused by the war in Ukraine, the sides noted that the strengthening of the energy system remains one of the major concerns of both states and expressed mutual openness to deepen cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and Poland on energy. Gavrilita spoke about the government's openness to build resilience in the energy sector and the connection to the European energy system.
"The Government of the Republic of Moldova continues to focus on the diversification of energy resources and the transition to renewable energy. Poland's expertise in this regard is valuable for our country, which is in the early stages of implementing an ambitious plan to strengthen energy security, " Gavrilița said.
At the same time, the premier thanked the Polish official for the support in October 2021, when the Republic of Moldova faced an energy crisis, amid tensions with the Russian giant Gazprom. The contract for the purchase of one million cubic meters of natural gas from Poland was a historic one, being the first purchase from alternative sources of the government.
