Moldovan president has meeting with NATO Deputy Secretary General
President Maia Sandu and NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Šekerinska today in Chisinau discussed deepening cooperation between Moldova and the North Atlantic Alliance in the areas of defense and countering hybrid threats.
The head of state appreciated the support provided by NATO and allied states for modernizing the National Army, strengthening cybersecurity and enhancing the resilience against hybrid risks. The discussion highlighted that the lessons learned by Moldova, which managed to limit Russian interference in elections, were valuable for many allied states. The talks also focused on the security situation in the region, the country's contribution to the security of Ukraine and Europe and Moldova's European path.
Moldova has cooperated with NATO since 1994, when it joined the Partnership for Peace, in full accordance with the neutral status enshrined in the Constitution. Since 2025, cooperation has been conducted under the Individually Tailored Partnership Programme (ITPP) for 2025–2028, which replaced the Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP), in force since 2006.
