Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister at Copenhagen Democracy Summit

For the Republic of Moldova, democracy is essential, and our commitment to European values is firm. This message was conveyed today by Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi at the eighth edition of Copenhagen Democracy Summit.

The official spoke about the challenges the country faces in the current geopolitical context and Chișinău authorities' efforts to protect democratic values against hybrid threats, disinformation and external pressures.

"Even though we are not facing a direct military threat, hybrid pressures are constant: manipulation and destabilization attempts from Russia. This is why close cooperation with our European and transatlantic partners is essential," said Mihai Popșoi.

The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized that currently, strengthening democratic institutions and advancing reforms that protect the rule of law and fundamental rights remain key priorities.

"Joining the European Union is our strategic goal, and the continuous support of international partners is vital for success. During the summit, I had a meeting with President of the Alliance of Democracies Foundation, former NATO Secretary-General and ex-Prime Minister of Denmark from 2001 to 2009 Anders Fogh Rasmussen. We discussed strengthening the partnership between Moldova and international organizations supporting democracy, as well as continuing support for our European path," Popșoi said.

Copenhagen Democracy Summit annually brings together political leaders, civil society representatives, activists and experts worldwide to discuss the state of democracy globally and support initiatives that defend fundamental rights and the rule of law.

On May 12–13, Popșoi is visiting the Kingdom of Denmark. During this visit, the minister will meet with several Danish officials. Mihai Popșoi will also have a meeting with members of the Moldovan diaspora in Denmark.
