Romania's Ambassador to Chisinau conveys message on Europe Day
On 26 April 2025, the construction of the new bridge at Ungheni began, the first motorway level bridge built between the two banks of the Prut in the last six decades, and it will bear the symbolic name Bridge of Flowers, recalling the historic event of 1990 when over a million people gathered at Prut. They showed the world that we share the same values and aspirations, says Romania's ambassador to the Republic of Moldova Cristian-Leon Turcanu in his message on Europe Day.
'Today we visit each other freely. This is a right we have gained and deserve to maintain, including through the choices we make every day. This freedom to choose has allowed us over all these years to achieve results that are visible - better and safer roads, modern schools and kindergartens, new energy connections, improved access to water and sanitation, joint cultural, educational and research projects, people returning home because they trust in the European future of their country', he said.
According to Cristian-Leon Turcanu, the reforms of the pro-European authorities in Chisinau and the strong support for the Ukrainian people's struggle for freedom have radically transformed the perception of the Republic of Moldova in the world. 'From a "small country" on the edge of Europe, the Republic of Moldova is today a respected and admired partner, frequented by heads of state and government, a voice that is heard and counts in the joint efforts to ensure a prosperous and secure European future for every citizen', he said.
'Romania will continue to be the main supporter of Moldova's integration into the great European family, a reality that is becoming ever closer and fully corresponds to the aspirations expressed through the vote of the citizens on this bank of the Prut. Together we will succeed because we are building our future in peace and respect for the diversity that unites us, because Europe is in each of us!' Cristian-Leon Turcanu said.
On 9 May, the Republic of Moldova celebrates Europe Day. The official opening of the event will take place today at 1:00 PM in the Great National Assembly Square. The event will culminate with a concert featuring renowned artists from the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine.
