Speaker discussed Moldova's European path with counterparts from different countries

In the context of the EU Speakers Conference in Budapest, Speaker Igor Grosu held meetings with his counterparts from various countries, such as Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Slovakia, Montenegro and others. The discussions focused on bilateral cooperation between countries and the progress made by the Republic of Moldova on European path.

During the meetings, Grosu spoke about the daily challenges faced by our country and the priorities in the negotiation process with the European Union. "We know that criminal groups will try again to influence the elections and divert us from our European path. Hence, it is crucial to invest in strong institutions, independent justice, solid economy and energy security," Grosu emphasized.

Discussions also included opportunities for cooperation with partner countries, especially in the context of taking over the valuable experience of EU member states for the Republic of Moldova. "Even though the road is difficult, we are determined to do everything possible to guarantee peace and safety, national stability and unity, economic development and well-being of all citizens. The support and experience of member states are extremely valuable to us. We continue to rely on close cooperation in all fields," he said.

In Budapest, Grosu also discussed with President of the Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Parliament Lorenzo Fontana. The Italian official said that the Social Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the Italian Republic is to be voted on shortly by the members of the Chamber of Deputies. The document will provide essential social protection for Moldovans settled in Italy, including retirement pensions, disability pensions and more. "It is a big step forward, which not only strengthens the sincere friendship between our countries but also acknowledges the enormous contribution of our diaspora," he said.

The EU Speakers Conference took place on 11-12 May and was hosted by the Hungarian Parliament.
