Ethnographer Varvara Buzilă winner of Europa Nostra Awards 2025

Speaker Igor Grosu congratulated researcher and ethnographer Varvara Buzilă at today's plenary session, as she was recently nominated winner of Europa Nostra Awards 2025 in the Heritage Champions category.

Varvara Buzilă, along with several colleagues from the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History was present at Parliament hall, where she received applause from MPs.

'It is a great honor for the Republic of Moldova. Yesterday Varvara Buzilă, a researcher, ethnographer, museographer and university professor was nominated winner of this important European award. Congratulations once again and many, many achievements in the future,' said Grosu.

Europa Nostra award is one of the most prestigious European distinctions in the cultural heritage, offered for outstanding contributions to the preservation, research and promotion of cultural values.

Varvara Buzilă, ethnographer and PhD in philology (specialization in folklore), was born in 1955 in the village of Trebujeni, Orhei. She has been working since 1983 at the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History, where she is currently a coordinating scientific researcher. She has contributed to the development of legislation regarding cultural heritage and has represented Moldova in important UNESCO files. She is the author of several volumes and over 150 scientific works.
