Moldova opens door to digital nomads
Today MPs voted in the final reading on a bill aimed at supporting the development of the digital economy and economic services. The document sees measures to attract professionals from abroad, modernize interaction with the business environment, and reduce bureaucracy.
Among the key provisions is the creation of a legal mechanism for attracting digital nomads - specialists who work remotely for international companies or run their own businesses through digital technology.
According to the authors' estimates, each digital nomad could contribute approximately 186,000 lei annually to the state budget. The measure is seen as an important step in attracting talent and migrating digital businesses to Moldova.
Additionally, the law updates the procedure for granting temporary residence rights for foreigners working in the IT sector and introduces a facility that allows cash withdrawal, on request, up to the limit of 1,000 lei per transaction. This change aims to increase trust in modern payment tools and promote financial inclusion.
The document also introduces a series of simplifications for entrepreneurs, such as electronic registration of enterprises in state information registers, eliminating barriers for the use of virtual cash registers, and removing the obligation to print the receipt if it is issued in digital format.
For the second reading, the project was supplemented with an amendment proposed by the Chairman of the Economy, Budget, and Finance Committee, Radu Marian. This targets the elimination of legislative conflicts that impede the activity of crowdfunding service providers and aligns national legislation with European standards.
The bill was developed by the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization, with the support of the Economic Council under the Prime Minister of Moldova, the Association of ICT Companies and GIZ Moldova.
