Moldovan parliament speaker asks Superior Council of Magistracy to investigate potential delays in case of Bolduresti mayor
Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu has asked members of the Superior Council of Magistracy (CSM) to investigate whether there were attempts to delay the criminal case involving the mayor of Bolduresti, Nicanor Ciochina, accused of causing a traffic accident resulting in the death of a minor.
The speaker noted that the judiciary must do its job and officials should examine whether there are any interferences in this case.
“CSM must look very closely if there are attempts to procrastinate. What some observers say—there are recusals, postponements, citing illnesses, all to stall for time. The judiciary must do its job,” Grosu said.
On June 1, Nicanor Ciochina was re-elected as the mayor of Bolduresti. He is suspected of causing an accident in February 2024, which resulted in the death of a minor. According to prosecutors, after the impact, the mayor allegedly left the scene and tried to cover up the traces.
