Moldovans working in Ukraine to be eligible for pensions and other social benefits
Moldovans working in Ukraine will be eligible for pensions and other social benefits. This will be possible after the government decided today to initiate negotiations on the Administrative Arrangement for implementing the Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine in the social security.
Thus, individuals covered by the Agreement will be able to receive old-age pensions, disability pensions due to general illnesses, disability pensions and allowances following work accidents or caused by occupational diseases, and survivor's pensions.
Minister of Labor and Social Protection Alexei Buzu stated at the government meeting that at least 20,000 citizens will benefit from the implementation of this Agreement.
"We have negotiated with our friends in Ukraine. We are set to finalize this process shortly. We estimate that at least 20,000 of our citizens will benefit from this agreement's implementation," said Alexei Buzu.
The Minister also added that over the past four years, agreements have been negotiated that double the number of citizens who will benefit from European-level social protection.
"We continue our efforts to ensure social protection for our citizens in the diaspora or those who have been in the diaspora. Over the past four years, we have managed to negotiate and sign agreements that, in fact, double the number of citizens who will benefit from European-level social protection, compared with all previous years," the official stated.
So far, the Republic of Moldova has signed 19 social security agreements with Romania, the Portuguese Republic, the Republic of Bulgaria, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the Republic of Austria, the Republic of Estonia, the Czech Republic, the Republic of Poland, Hungary, the Kingdom of Belgium, the Republic of Lithuania, the Federal Republic of Germany, the Republic of Turkey, the Republic of Belarus, the Hellenic Republic, the Italian Republic, the Kingdom of Spain, the Republic of Latvia, and the French Republic.
